Track Beauty of the Week: Anna Alminova Анна Альминова

Anna Alminova Анна Альминова  is this week’s track beauty!

The Russian had a stellar junior career, winning a 1,500m run silver medal at the 2004 World Junior Championships in Grossetto. Alminova stopped the clocked at 4:16.32 in the final, six seconds off her then personal best. In the senior ranks, it took some time before the Russian made some impact.

She had a breakout year in 2009, qualifying for the semifinals of the 1,500m run at the Berlin World Championships. Prior to Berlin, Alminova achieved early season success as she struck gold at the 2009 European Indoor Championships. The Russian also contributed an emphatic win at the European Team Championships, held a few months before the Berlin World Championships.

Alminova’s career hit a snag in 2010, when she tested positive for a banned substance after the 2010 World Indoor Championships in Doha. It was a relatively trivial offense, with the drug resulting from an over-the-counter colds medicine; hence, the light sentence.
