Track Beauty of the Week: Daniela Reina
November 14, 2011Posted by on
Daniela Reina is this week’s Track Beauty!
The fiery Italian athlete dabbles in both the 400m dash and 800m run, like the great Alberto Juantorena. The 30-year old Reina, however, started off as a quarter miler. Reina has been a fixture in the Italian athletics scene, having won national titles in the 400m dash both indoors and outdoors.
Her best year in the sport came in 2007, when she reached the semifinals of the 400m dash at the Osaka World Championships. She clocked 51.99s the semis, eight-hundredths of a second off her 51.18s PR set in 2006. In March 2007, she set a lifetime’s best of 52.95s at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham. Reina’s best finish in a continental event is a fifth place at the 2009 European Indoors in Torino.
The Italian veteran has had less success in the grueling two-lap event, crashing out in the qualifying rounds of both the 2009 Berlin World Championships and the 2010 Barcelona European Championships.
