Track Beauty of the Week: Danuta Urbanik
October 16, 2011Posted by on
Danuta Urbanik is this week’s track beauty!
Urbanik is national level Polish middle distance runner. The Pole has won several Polish titles, most notably the gold medal in the indoor 1500m in 2011, en route to a new indoor personal best of 4:12.69. In the same meet, she also notched a bronze medal in the 800m.
As a junior in 2007, Urbanik finished with an impressive silver medal at the European Junior Cross Country Championships.
The twenty-two year old failed to sustain her early season form into the outdoor season, despite clocking a new personal best of 2:00.84 in June. At the Polish national championships prior to the Daegu World Championships, Urbanik finished second with a time of 2:01.36, way below the “A” entry standard.
Nevertheless, youth is on the side of the talented Pole. Dipping below the two minute barrier – the benchmark for elite women’s two-lap racing – is certainly on the horizon.
