Back Track: 2005 Ateneo Track & Field Alumni Homecoming
October 3, 2010Posted by on
Whilst researching for my Jorge Ledesma piece, I stumbled upon a video presentation that my teammates and I did for the 2005 Ateneo Track & Field Alumni Homecoming. Before the advent of the Big Blue Run, this was the biggest event spearheaded by the team. Illustrious alumni such as Mike Escaler of All Asian Countertrade and Ding Camua of Unilab graced the night.
It took around 3 to 5 months of preparation to organize such an affair. My teammates and I spent an inordinate amount of time poring through old Guidon issues in the University Archives to get some much-needed photos for the video.
The event raised funds for the track & field program. Track alumni Rene Banzon led the fund raising efforts. Alumni boosters Pancho Escaler, Mike Roces, Anay Zalamea, Chuck Medel, Ricky Palou and Jimmy Alabanza provided invaluable support.
It was a wonderfully different experience seeing all those former athletes – now captains of industry – converge to relive their glory days. Seeing the wizened old (and not-so-old) men and women reminisce and share anecdotes instilled a nostalgic sense of history to the sport and the Alma Mater.
