Ateneo Big Blue Run: Uphill Challenge (11 July 2010)

Guys and girls! If you’re free on 11 Jul 2010 (Sunday), join the Big Blue Run: Uphill Challenge! My former team is organizing this event.

From the organizers:

Are you looking for a new challenge?  Have you tried everything from trail running to aquathlons, but still want to make running even more interesting?  Then we’ve got the course for you.  It’s all uphill!  We’re not just talking about one uphill leg as part of the race route…this race offers a multitude of uphills.  Steep, steadily sloping, short, long.  Get ready to conquer them!

On July 11, a different kind of running event awaits runners from all over the metro. Test your strength and get ready for a new kind of running high as the Ateneo Track & Field program, in partnership with La Vista Homeowners’ Association present “The Big Blue Run: Uphill Challenge”.

The 5/10K routes cover the Ateneo de Manila campus and continue into La Vista Village for the uphill stretch.  There will also be a 3K fun run within the campus.

P10,000 in cash await both the first male and female to conquer the challenging 10K route., while P7,000 await the 5K champions.  Cash prizes are also in store for those who place second and third in the male/female adult (19 and up) and junior (18 and below) divisions.  Special prizes will be given to the top 5 male/female finishers of the 10K in the masters division (35 and up).  Top 10 finishers of the 3K category also have special prizes in store for them.

This event will only be the first of a series of four runs to be staged at the Ateneo throughout the year.  Aside from the Uphill Challenge, other exciting runs like the Big Blue Night Run, BBR Cross Country Challenge and Big Blue Katipunan Run await runners in the coming months.

In line with this, the Ateneo Big Blue Running Club will also be launched on July 11.  Race organizer and Ateneo Track & Field program head, Coach Mick Perez says that, “Ateneo would like to promote running to the community.  The campus can be a place where runners can congregate, run together, and learn from each other” .

Registration will be held starting June 21 at the Ateneo campus (University Athetics Office, Blue Eagle Gym) and at the La Vista Village office.  Registration at RUNNR Bonifacio High Street will be from July 3-10 from 12nn-9pm.  Registration fee is P400 for all distances, which includes race bibs and finisher shirts.  Assembly time is at 5:00am.  Loot bags await all finishers.

For inquiries, email bbruphillchallenge@ yahoo.com or call the University Athletics Office at 4266001 loc 4194.

This event is made possible by Greenfield City Corporation, Summit Natural Drinking Water, 100Plus (official sports drink of the Big Blue Run), Pascual Laboratories, Sony Ericsson, RunForChange, Security Bank, BDO, Enjoy Card, Zagu, and Slimmer’s World, with media partners Runnerspeak, Takbo.Ph, Clickthecity. com, Frontrunner Magazine, Multisport, and Northern Living.
